Adding in a skylight

Skylights are well worth the cost and inconvenience of installation. But do find someone that knows what they're doing; you don't want a skylight that leaks.

I don't know how expensive it is, but I know that it is better to hire someone to do it for you, since you need to seal it and make it water proof. I don't think is too difficult to to, and it is rather a fast project.

My mother would like to add one or two skylights to her living room. Does anyone have an idea of how difficult/expensive this is? Is it a DIY or better to just hire a contractor?
