The amount of chemicals they use in treated wood is harmless to the human being and pets, unless you keep sucking on the wood, you might get somehow intoxicated and with lots of splinters. There are strict regulations for construction, specially after the use of Asbestos and the consequences of it. At least that's what my brother in law told me, and he is in construction.

I agree. The most environmentally and financially friendly solution is to replace old wood as needed with new eco-friendly alternatives.

new pressure treated wood is made without arsenic and is supposed to be more environmentally friendly. i personally wouldn't worry too much about exisitng wood around your home. any chemicals are used in small amounts and i don't think it's worth ripping up functional wood.

I'm concerned about the pressure treated wood that is used on my deck and outside stairs. I've heard that the wood is treated with lots of chemicals - even arsenic! - that could be unhealthy for us and our environment. Any thoughts?
