I'd probably go with an electric machine -- it costs less and has about the same power. Extension cords are just not that difficult to work with.

They are much lighter weight, but they lack the power to do heavy duty jobs. Also, be sure you get one that has removable batteries and buy an extra battery. Otherwise you have to wait while the battery finishes charging before you finish trimming and edging.

Do the rechargeable weedwacker/edgers work well? I have about 1/4 acre and hate using the gaspowered models.
