Side-by-sides are the way to go. You can put the stuff you use most commonly at easy reach for both the fridge and the freezer.

If you are concerned about energy efficiency, your best choice is freezer on the top, followed by freezer on the bottom, and with side-by-sides logging in in last place. The in-door ice dispensers are nifty tho.

I've had all of them in the different houses I've lived in. And I prefer the freezer in the bottom. The model I had, had a lot of space for everything! The side by side has some advantages, but I like it better on the bottom.

They are a little hard to find, but I like the ones that have the freezer (the least used in our house) on the bottom.

i love my new fridge. it's an amana french door style with the freezer on the bottom. it's roomy and i was thrilled to be able to slide a whole pizze box in - never could do that with a side by side.

With a side by side you have to pull everything out to fit anything in. Dealing with Thanksgiving leftovers was always a nightmare when I owned one. Would not get one again.

What kind of space are we working with here? A side by side can work out really well when there is limited room for the doors to protrude when they open, like if the refrigerator is across from a kitchen island. Just think about your situation.

Yes, but the side by side often gives you more freezer room and many come with a water and ice dispenser built into the door.

I always prefer the standard fridge with a freezer on top and refrigerator on the bottom. I just don’t like the idea of trying to cram everything into such a narrow space on the two door model. Plus, Consumer Reports has always said that the top freezer type is usually more energy efficient.

I’m in the market for a new refrigerator and can’t decide what type makes the most sense for me. What do you think is the most practical style of refrigerator? A double door where the freezer is on the left and fridge on the right OR the freezer is on top of the refrigerator portion???????
