Switching the fan from summer mode to winter mode

I think most people think of fans as summer things, but you can actually save a lot on your heating bill in the winter too.

Ha! I hope he read your post before he started disassembling his fan. Too funny. ... But I guess not as funny as not knowing that you can use your fan in the winter time. :>

Stop!!! Don't take off the blades. There is usually a reverse switch on the fan. If you set the reverse switch for an upward airflow (clockwise), running your fan on low speed will force the heat accumulated at the ceiling down along the walls where it must rise again. This mild circulation of air provides a more evenly heated room, shortening the time it takes the heater to work. Don't run on high, or you'll generate drafts.

I didn't even know there was a difference depending on the weather! I actually never had a fan in my house. I lived in a place that had one but I actually never used it!

What's the easiest way to set my fans up for winter weather vs. summer? I know I used to know this, but it's been a while.
