If you at least consult with a contractor you'll be much more likely to get everything done right the first time -- that can be a big savings.

The other thing that's nice about having a contractor on board is that they can give you good ideas about new layouts. That can really open up a bathroom.

If you need to reroute the electrical or plumbing you will want to bring in a contractor. They can make sure it's up to code and save you a lot of costly mistakes.

Get a contractor if you are changing tiles and floors. they will bring their plumber to do the plumbing... but plumbers do only that, and they don't really take care for the renovation unless they offer that service. Many don't.

YES!!!! If you are switching everything out (tub, sink, toilet) or want to move anything around, this is pretty much a MUST.
