Don't forget to add in a little wiggle space too. Lids sometimes extend more than the base and it's an easy slip up to make.

The key to success is going to be careful measuring. Also be sure to take measurements at several places. The width at the top of your closet can be different than at the bottom. The same goes for depth.

If you can afford it, hire an expert to design and build it for you. Otherwise, you're going to end up with a lot of do-overs.

Start at a hardware store, then try stores like Wal-mart. If all else fails, check out stores like the Container Store or Bed Bath and Beyond. They have great stuff, but it's often overpriced.

When I got mine, I went to the cheapest place I knew: K-Mart. I found the same stuff I was looking for, and the price was pretty good. I still have them in my closets, after 17 years!

The container store has good ideas, but only if there's one near your house. Price out your options tho, you may be able to get the same stuff cheaper at a hardware store.
