Depending on where you live and how often you get deers, I think it is better to accept them than to put up a high fence. The problem is that an "effective" fence might make your property look not as attractive in case you end up selling it some day.

You need an 8-foot high fence. Deer can and do jump pretty high. Might almost be better to just figure out how to live with them.

i use something like this - http://www.builderssquare.com/xp_6842041-Garden_Fence_Noble_Fence_702948.aspx - very simple, cheap, not too obtrusive looking...

what works best to keep deer out?
