Little kids love pockets where they can stash stuff. Clean up is that much easier when the kids are eager to pitch in to help.

It's real good to be able to tell kids that if it doesn't fit into their organizers, something has to go. It makes kids more selective about what they bring home and keeps things much better organized. We also do spring and fall cleaning. What you get rid of you don't need to organize.

If you have a choice, choose durability over price. Kids can be hard on organizers.

Definitely worth paying more for organizers that can be used well into their teenage years. And keep telling them that for new things to be stored, they need to get rid of the older stuff that they don't use anymore!

Do a lot of over-the-door organizers. It faces the inside, so you don't have to see it. And it gets stuff up off the floor. Making them get rid of 1/3 of their stuff does wonders too. Finally, pick organizers that they won't outgrow. You may pay a little more, but you only have to buy it once.

Start by making them get rid of a lot of stuff. They won't be able to stay organized if they are trying to jam too much stuff in too small a space. If you have one near you, check out the Container store too. They have some great stuff, that's typically compatible with your existing stuff.

I found that IKEA has great stuff and is not expensive. If there is an IKEA store near you, ckeck it out. If not, you can order also from their online catalog, I think. They have great solutions for everybody.

i got lots of space saver items. some plasket drawer sets like these http://www.builderssquare.com/xp_5255086-Stack_Drawer_Set_Of_Three_Air_Tight_Plastic_White_UknownManufacturer_StacksandStacks_44090.aspx for inside the closet.
also lots of bins and baskets so that the kids can get things off the floor easily by just throwing toys and stuff in.
and there's always the option of closing the door and not even looking in.
