Does it get the same amount of light as the rest of your yard? Too much or too little light can be a problem as well>

Do you have a septic tank? It could be a leak from your tank causing the problem.

It's also possible that you have a leaky pipe under that patch. Too much water can be just as bad as too little.

You might want to check your sprinkler system. The one in that area might not be working -- that could lead to dried out grass too.

I think that probably it is what southboca said, a dog that doesn't allow your grass to grow. I would try and plant a tree in there, or create some kind of ornament, like one of those old tires and plant flowers on it. If they don't survive wither, then it is probably a dog!

My guess is that it's environmental. Do you have a dog? Does your neighbor? Dogs tend to mark in the same spot each day, which kills the grass. Just an idea.

for years i have not been able to get grass to grow on one patch of mud/dirt in my yard. i've tried different grass seed, adding soil, watering, and nothing works. even fertilized it. any thoughts?
