An easy way to do this is to copy down the specs for your current motor. Get one equal or stronger when you are replacing.

you need to know the size of your doors and what they are made of, and then you'll be able to figure out what motors will support them. check the specs for the motors carefully, or talk to whoever you are going to have install them to make sure you are buying the right ones. hopefully that will help enough with the noise to avoid replacing the doors as well.

i'm trying to decide if i need new garage doors and motors, or can get by with just the motors. i can't take how loud my doors are. opening them wakes my kids! i think the doors are ok, but am confused about how i would match them to motors that are suitable. thanks.
