| "Great price on a safe, fast cooktop!" |
Date: 3/11/2007 |
"My wife and I are doing a kitchen remodel and had to move everything downstairs where we don't have a full kitchen, so we bought this to have something to cook on.
Things that are awesome: #1 -> Your pot gets hot, but the cooktop doesn't. So when you take the pot off, there's nothing hot there anymore, plus it turns off automatically! And if anything boils over, no problem: out of the pot, the surface isn't hot. (If you've ever cleaned up the "bowls" under a normal electric burner, you know how nice this is.) #2 -> the price. We're getting a full 5-burner induction cooktop upstairs, for over $2500, so we expected not to get much for only $190... but it's been great! #3 -> It heats up really fast - much like a gas stove, but without the safety issues of gas. #4 -> It's portable and lightweight! #5 -> It's larger than it looks in the picture.
Things that aren't so awesome: #1 -> It doesn't work with all our old cookware. In particular, it doesn't work with any of our old teflon stuff, so we're stuck, for the moment, with no non-stick cooking. #2 -> For big flat pots, the sides of the pot are notably cooler than the center, so my wife can't cook as many simultaneous turkey-burgers as before..."

| "passes test with flying colors" |
Date: 1/15/2007 |
"I bought this to test induction cooking before I bought a far costlier built in version. I am delighted with it. It exceeded all expectations. It has all the benefits of gas cooking, i.e., instant hot, off, and all the ranges between, which is great for me as our condo has no gas hookups. The timer is an unexpected treat. It is great. I set it, do my patio chores or the like, with no worries that I'll over cook or worse, forget it is on as I talk with a neighbor.
Clean up is almost non existant, my Florida kitchen doesn't heat up, food is cooked just right. Finally I can do omlettes as I did in Paris, pasta al dente, and more. The pan that comes with it is ideal and I've adjusted several recipes to its shape and size.
I've also learned that, so far, I have not need a second burner. (I gave my range to Habitat.) So until that happen, this is all the cooktop I need. Let's see, $150 vs almost $2000 with indstallation. This cooktop is a winner.
One thing: the literature that came with it indicates that it is made in white which would have been perfect for my kitchen but I could only find black on line."
