"Compact and Convenient" Date: 12/17/2006
"I have owned a Maverick EC-200 for about two years and have been very pleased with it. I decided to try a model EC-100 despite another reviewer's comments. Features: The EC-200 holds 7 eggs in shell and 4 in the poaching tray. The EC-100 holds 4 eggs in shell and 3 in the poaching tray. Both come with a combination measuring cup/egg piercer. The measuring cup has markings for every combination of doneness (soft/medium/hard) and number of eggs (1-7 or 1-4). Cooking time depends on amount of water used. The alarm is steady "chirp" that gets your attention. The EC-100 has a non-stick heating surface instead of EC-200's stainless steel. (Eggs never touch this surface during cooking.) Comments: I have only had the EC-100 for a few weeks, but the only differences I have found are the smaller size and "cuter" design when compared to the EC-200. If you always need 5 to 7 boiled eggs or that 4th poached egg, the EC-200 or the Hen shaped SEC-2 would be more appropriate. Response to earlier review: I have cooked at least 300 eggs with these cookers and the alarm has never failed. A cycle for 7 hard-boiled eggs is around fifteen minutes, but I have never timed one since I listen for the alarm. The lid fits on top of the boiled egg tray, so yes, you DO need to leave the tray under the poacher AND put the lid on the unit for your poached eggs to cook - not an inconvenience, but a logical design. NOTES: This unit is NOT designed for unattended cooking. The unit does not turn itself off after the alarm sounds, so you need to be there. Instructions say to rinse eggs in cold water to stop the cooking process. Also, never preheat the unit - Turn on only after water, eggs, and lid are in place. "

"Worst Egg Poacher that I ever used" Date: 9/11/2006
"I have been using egg poachers since the early 1970's, and the Maverick is the worst. The Yugo of egg poachers. * - Takes about 25 min to cook, vs a few minutes for most poachers. * - Requires the soft boiled egg attachment to poach eggss. * - When the above component broke, the company sent the wrong replacement part. * - Susposed to chirp when done cooking. Never chirped. A quality machine would turn itself off. At least now I know to avoid the Maverick brand name."
