"Steam Iron" Date: 9/4/2007
"Love this iron. Has lots of steams which makes it easy for a person like me who HATES to iron. You only have to go over the garment maybe one or two times according to what you're ironing. If you're like me - a lazy ironer - this steam iron is for you. I love it so much I order it because I couldn't find one in the store. My husband who a pro at ironing also gives this iron a thumbs up."

"worked ok when not broken" Date: 12/20/2006
"I received this iron at Christmastime last year. It worked well for 8 months. The only problem I had with it at first was that it was very difficult to see the water line when filling the tank - even when holding it up to a light. In August the iron started beeping and flashing and shortly after I smelled something burning. I unplugged the iron, waited until it was cool, and then refilled the water tank. As I filled the tank, the burnt smell came back and I noticed there was a brownish burn spot on the bottom side of the tank. I called customer service and was given instructions to mail the iron in because it was still under warranty. It cost me over $10 in shipping to send the iron back. In about 2 weeks, I received another iron. The replacement iron just stopped working after only 4 months of use. This time, I was using it and it just turned off. I tested the outlet - it was fine. I waited until the iron was cool and tried it at a number of other outlets - and it still wouldn't even turn on. I called customer service again. I mentioned that it cost over $10 to mail it last time and I didn't know if I wanted to spend the money to get it replaced again. The operator, while friendly, explained that the customer has to pay for the product to be shipped to their headquarters and also has to include postage for returning the new or repaired iron. That return shipping cost was waived the first time around, but I would be responsible for it this time. Plus, the warranty would exprire at the first of the year, so if the new replacement iron stopped working, it wouldn't be under warranty. I can't justify paying at least $20 in shipping every time this model of iron stops working - especially if it's going to happen a couple times a year. I have an at-home sewing business and I can't be without an iron, so I also had to buy a cheap "back-up" iron to use while this iron was being replaced. I will save the $20 on returning the iron and put it towards another more reliable brand."

"solid mid priced performer" Date: 8/18/2006
"I just replaced my Philips HI296 iron. The main feature I had in mind when I shopped was a removable water reservoir, as this was my favorite feature on my old iron. When I went shopping, I did not see any Philips irons @ the store. I noticed I saw very few w/removable reservoirs. I then searched the Internet to identify options. I ended up w/a Conair DPP1500 digital steam iron. So far, I am pleased. Two drawbacks I notice are that the handle is wide & the iron is quite heavy, making it more difficult for someone with small hands (like myself) to use, especially if you have a lot of ironing to do @ one time. The removable reservoir is so convenient, in that you can fill it right @ the sink, & not have to keep a container of water @ your ironing station. This particular reservoir, however, is almost opaque, making it difficult to judge how much water is left, or whether or not you have it full. You have to hold it up to the light to view the water line. The same weight that makes the iron tiring to handle, also helps it do a great ironing job. The steam system is powerful & effective. I have used both the low & high temperature settings, as well as the minimum steam & no steam settings. I ironed clothing, & linens, including a tablecloth, & never needed more steam than the minimum steam setting w/high temperature. The iron switches back & forth between steam & no steam smoothly, without spitting, or delaying to adjust. I noticed in reading the manual that some models of this particular iron have retractable cords. I would certainly recommend that feature if you can find it."
