"My last vac was an 10 year old Panasonic comparable to today's Panasonic V5209... however the price for that model increased signigficantly so I opted for this vac. instead. I figure if it lasts 6 years with no breakdowns it will have given me my money's worth.
That being said, I had a hard time finding someone with the V7314 in stock. If you can't find one, know that I ended up purchasing it thru Ebay from Appliances USA, seller PJ63, for $139+free shipping and handling and it was a New vac. not "factory serviced". Ebay will also offer you 3 year 100% guarantee warranty for an extra $13 if you want it.
I have used the vac. on hard floors and carpets and am satisfied with it so far... any vacuum I have has to be able to suck up alot of dog hair as I have a lab and vacuum pretty much every other day as a result. So for me a vac. with an engine bypass is a must. I am sure the engine will hold up fine against the pet hair, etc. as my last Panasonic's engine never failed... what I am not so sure about is how the hose reel will hold up or having the plastic roller assembly versus the metal of the V5209, but then again the roller assembly is not what went on the V5209 either. (The housing for the vacuum is what ultimately cracked and the vac shop by me wanted $$$ to fix it).
This vac operates as it should & has some nice features. The thing I have learned about Panasonics is #1 never run over the cord because they are strong and will shred it (did it with the last one), #2 follow the the things they tell you to do in the owner's manual to extend the life of your vac. and have less problems, #3 oil the roller bearings once a year so they don't freeze up. Hope that helps... I knew after my first Panasonic I was buying another so I guess that's the best review I can give.
