"I have (had) two of these, one at home and one at work - pretty basic but gets the job done. However... The one at home has recently started making strange snapping sounds when it gets near boiling and even after I've unplugged it. 'Not sure what that's about but I have visions of the thing going up in flames along with all my worldly possessions, so it's going in the dumpster. The other one recently started shedding these strange white flakes into the water. I assume they're either chunks of paint boiled off the interior or they're mineral deposits? In any case I don't want them swimming around in my tea, so that one's already gone in the dumpster. A somewhat maddening waste, and now I've got to find a pair of similar pots from a different company... arrgh."

"We had one in our office breakroom for about 6 years before it died. I looked at other kettles to replace it, but decided to buy the same one because we know when the water is boiling because of the whistle."

"This tea kettle was not only cheap but works well... I live above my Grandparents in their upstairs and don't have access to the stove a lot, and microwaves don't do well heating up water (it usually splashes all over the place and/or doesn't get hot enough). But this allows me to heat up water VERY quickly (in 2-3 minutes) for tea or cup o'noodles, or what have you. I wouldn't recommend it for anything besides water since it would be very difficult to clean out (the only opening is at the spout). But if you want something that quickly heats water without a stove or microwave, this is a great buy."
