"Fast Cooker"
Date:
8/11/2007
"I purchased this, as most do, because of the quart capacity. On the low setting, it boils like mad. The meats in Kentucky Burgoo and Green Pepper steak overcooked in a short amount of time. The low setting is only slightly lower than the high setting. I would like to cook some recipes for five to six hours. But no - this is not a slow cooker. Most other reviews I have read have not had this problem, so I might consider returning this item for another. If I had this to do over again, I would probably spend more and try to purchase a little better quality cooker than this Chinese model. I am assuming it was imported from China or elsewhere. Hope this helps! L. Clark"

"So far i'm very happy."
Date:
5/2/2006
"While i haven't taken the time to acually measure off how much it holds, it is certainly big enough to hold a brisket and enough vegetables to last every serving. I've cooked a chuck roast w/veggies a Pork loin with Sauer kraut & potatoes and a couple of Corned beef briskets (separetely) with plenty of Red Potatoes carrots and a medium sized Cabbage, cut into wedges, added in for the last hour of cooking. I cooked them all, using the HIGH setting, and in 6 hours, the cuts were close to falling apart tender! 'Big' was what i wanted..and this qualifies. The metal rim around the glass lid did begin discolor on first use, but that doesn't seem to be a big problem. (at least not for me.)"

"Only 8 qt. -- Updated to FOUR STARS"
Date:
3/31/2006
"I just received my Elite Cuisine 8.5-qt. Slow Cooker and checked its capacity because I bought if for that reason. It is to replace my 4.5-qt Rival that is insufficient for my use. The Elite Cuisine has only an 8-qt capacity. I measured it the same way I did the Rival: by filling a gallon milk container with water and pouring it into the pot, and the pot held only two gallons, filled up to the very edge that the lid sits on. There are several possible explanations: 1) I'm getting really 4.25 quarts of milk (not likely), 2) the manufacturer measures to the very top edge of the ceramic pot, in which case the edge of the lid would be submerged, 3) the manufacturer measures the volume the ceramic insert displaces, 4) some other way. I was a little disappointed that there was no recipe book, although this would not be a disquallifier. Update: We have used this slow cooker since I first reviewed it and would give it 4 stars at this point if Amazon would allow me to change the rating."

"Good while it worked, but.."
Date:
3/26/2006
"Bought this and was happy with it for two years. A couple of days ago I volunteered to bring some barbeque to work, set it on low overnight, came back in the mornign and nothing had happened. It seems like now low turn it up to about 75 degrees, and high brings it up to 150. Not what I had in mind. After my mother had used her crockpot for 30 years, I was hoping for more than 2."
