"filter tray swings open" Date: 9/1/2007
"I am not loving this coffeemaker. While I don't have trouble with the taste, the bubbles make it hard to tell how many cups you are brewing, the coffee does not keep the temperature very long, and it is difficult to poor. Also, and it might just be mine, but the coffee filter tray swings open and lets steam out when it is nearly done finished brewing. Is it supposed to do that??"

"bubbles in water level gauge" Date: 8/19/2007
"I am returning my second FMF 5 today (not bought from Amazon). Both my units have the bubbles in water-level gauge problem. This is not a small problem. The bubbles are large and long and can't be tapped out. It is impossible to tell how much water you've added. I called Krups and spoke with someone who said they've had a problem with these bubbles. He said the first complaint from consumers on this model was that the gauge responded too slowly in showing the water level, so Krups made some design alterations and now they have a bubble problem. He was hesitant in offering this information, and when I finally pressed him to state definitively that there is a known problem in the water level design, he began to backtrack, but he had already said it. He advised that I pull the tube off the unit (press down and unhinge it from the top) and drain it and start over. That worked for several days. This unit will add 10 minutes to your coffee making routine as you try to figure out how much water you've added. I have been very happy with Kurps in the past, but this unit is unusable and they need to fix it or get it off the market. It is impossible to imagine that this escaped their notice during testing. Vote with your wallet and buy from someone else, then call Kurps and tell them why you did, or tell them why you've returned it. USA: 1-800-526-5377. Canada: 1-800-418-3325."

"Krups Coffeemaker" Date: 8/14/2007
"This coffeemaker offers ease of use (very easy to fill with water without spilling all over, and fill the basket with coffee grounds) and ease of cleaning (completely accessible to clean out the grounds and drips of coffee). The stainless steel carafe keeps the coffee hot for hours, without making it stronger or burnt tasting (there is no warming burner). However, because of the design of the carafe, it is very difficult to pour out the last 1/2 mug of coffee without removing the lid. I really like the white color of the coffeemaker and carafe with the staineless steel. So many of the coffeemakers are now black with stainless steel, which wouldn't look as good in our kitchen as the white does. I look forward to years of use of this coffeemaker."

"At 1 star it is overrated" Date: 7/26/2007
"My first one was returned to the store the next day because it would not work at all. My second one is trash. DO NOT BUY THIS COFFEEMAKER. For $100, you have a right to expect a much, much better product. Within 2 days of using my machine, the LCD display got steamed and now it doesn't work. I only get parts of numbers. The pot is hard to pour from. It takes considerable contortions to get the last cup or two out. It leaks all over the place from time to time. I still haven't figured out how it is possible, but after 3 months I am sick to death of sopping up 2-4 cups of water from around the base on a regular basis. Even after three months, there is still a plastic taste. For $100, they should have used better quality material, maybe a stainless steel tank & tubing. As is, you get about $10 worth of product for $100. Total ripoff. I will replace this soon. But not with another Krups product."
