"And plastic in your food..." Date: 9/12/2007
"I agree with every negative comment above. Here's one that I didn't see yet: Some of the little spikes on the guard are just a hair too long, so that they break off and land in your food when you get to the end of whatever you're slicing. The good news is that the blade is so dull, you'll probably have given up on the machine long before you get to the end of whatever you're slicing. What a sad waste of money."

"Terrible! Waste of money." Date: 7/18/2007
"If I could give it zero stars, I would. The only thing I could get it to slice decently was cooked potatoes! Wish I would have done some more research before I bought the stupid thing. It broke, and I had to throw it away. I cannot believe Cuisinart made such a worthless kitchen tool!"

"Blunt, unhygienic, inefficient and dangerous" Date: 7/18/2007
"The cuisinart mandolin we bought had plastic parts that smelt of kerosene and had mud inside the plastic wrapper. The julienne blades were supposed to slide into a holder on the unit, but poorly molded plastic interfered with the blades which will cause them to blunt over time and is potentially dangerous when inserting and removing. The standard blades themselves are removable but not sharp. The straight blade is partly serrated and cannot be sharpened. The crinkle blade is also blunt and not as crinkly as the one that prepared the waffle cut vegetables in the box illustration. It is impossible to achieve the advertised results with the product as sold. The product has a bottom lip that is too small to get a cleaning implement inside and is designed to trap food on the bench as it is being sliced. Very nasty, dirty looking welds in this area contribute to the impression that this unit is a health risk. In a side-by-side test with a 10-year old German plastic mandoline, the Cuisinart could not cut a tomato without mashing it to pieces. The German unit breezed through the chore and was more easily cleaned."

"Very Disappointed" Date: 5/22/2007
"I had a plastic mandolin and finally decided to splurge on an all metal one. I chose this based on the Cuisinart name and wish I had taken it back the next day. Adjustments are difficult and the blade is not at all sharp. It is almost like slicing with the back side of a knife instead of the sharp side. Look for another brand!!"
