"This is a prequel/remake worth seeing!
Many rabid fans of the original Halloween are probably chomping at the bit to shred this film to pieces. Calm down guys and gals, Zombie's attempt here is actually a pretty good addition to the series.
It starts off in the Myers home, little Mikey is eleven years old and developing some major teenage angst a couple of years early. Mainly because Mom's a stripper and stepdad's a loser who yells and curses and degrades the kids with every chance he gets.
That's probably a big reason why Mike likes to crawls into his shell and hide. Or actually, he prefers to hide behind some sort of mask.
I thought this movie was cool because it didn't simply change the cast from the original classic and tell the exact same story. It goes on to show young Michael go off the deep end, murder some family members, and be sent away to a mental institute. Then it eventually fast forwards 15 years and shows him escape and head home.
Now, I'll admit, once this deranged fella gets home the suspense is pretty much drained and it simply becomes a hack'em up gorefest. Oh yes, good times. Still it's fairly brutal, just not the most imaginative set of killings we could hope for.
So is it as good as the original? Don't be stupid. But give this a chance or else you risk becoming another clueless victim. Oh yeah, by the way, this poster is pretty cool too.

"No wonder the remake of Halloween has been about as bad as any other horror film remake. Poor Michael Myers lost decades of substance thanks to Rob Zombie. He was once a very subtle, stealthly, tricky and intelligent icon of horror slashers. But now, he appears as a pro-wrestler dressed in a jumpsuit destroying everything and everyone in his path without any purpose or design to him. If you liked this movie a lot, then I'm sorry for you. It shows how little depth is appreciated these days. While there were parts I liked about the remake here and there, the film was overall a bore. Some great killings, yes. A great acting job on Dr. Loomis, yes. A well done back story on young Michael, sort-of. But overall, the suspense, the intensity and the true terror of Michael Myers has been stripped and replaced with the over-tired gorefest which leaves the true myers fan retaining nothing afterwards but the ticket stub and an empty container of soda. Young Michael steals the show, but it's not worth theater admission. I was reminded of Halloween Resurrection (another awful sequel) because of just how mindless the script is. I can't imagine John Carpenter was very amused by this. Oh, and save your dough if you're thinking about purchasing the soundtrack, it sucks too. Unless of course you want a CD that is half spoken lines from the film, mostly tunes from the late seventies and two re-done Halloween themes."
